Silent Movie Month Celebration

1910-1920, 1920-1930, Beautiful Things, Ithacans, Publicity, Special Events, Windows

Petrune is happy to be celebrating Silent Movie Month this October in Ithaca and you’re invited to a reception for the Ithaca Motion Picture Project to celebrate a month of exhibits, events and screenings focused on the silent movie era and Ithaca’s own Wharton Inc motion picture studio. We were inspired to do a window display of one of Ithaca’s own Silent Film actresses Grace Darlington, the star of Beatrice Fairfax serials.

Petrunia Launch Party!

1990-present, Beautiful Things, Ithacans, Petrunia, Publicity, Special Events

Our local fans never cease to amaze us! The Petrunia Launch Party held on September 7th was a fantastic event! The Ithaca Community has been nothing but supportive since the Fall 2012 Petrunia Collection debuted in the store. It was our pleasure to throw a party and a killer runway show to celebrate our line as well the people that made it happen!

Below are stills from the fashion show with some of Ithaca’s own local beauties. The show included the Fall/Winter 2012 Collection and a sneak peak of the Spring/Summer 2013 Collection.  The Petrunia Spring/Summer collection will be available in Petrune, as well as in stores all around the country, February and March of next year.

Introducing Petrunia

1990-present, Beautiful Things, Ithacans, Lovely Materials, Petrunia, Publicity, Special Events, Style

In addition to the usual receptions, performances, and other art events, the Gallery Night on September 7th will see the unveiling of the Fall/Winter 2012 collection from Petrunia.  This spring we did a teaser post about our fashion line founded by Domenica Brockman and Justin Hjortshoj, the owners of Petrune, and designer, Candace Shoemaker. We are very excited to unveil the full collection not only to Petrune, but to stores across the country.

The Fall/Winter collection features dresses and coats in a variety of classic silhouettes, from a 50s-style dress with a full pleated skirt, to a classic 40s-style trench coat.  Details like metal zippers, built-in slips, and cloth buttons evoke vintage fashion, and each piece is meant to look, feel, and move like vintage fabric.

Whether you’re a fan of Petrune or just intrigued by the idea of high-quality, original designs at lower prices than New York boutiques, we invite you to drop by Petrune from 6-8:30 on Friday, September 7 to enjoy refreshments, the Fall/Winter 2012 collection, and a sneak peak at the Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Please respond, and invite others through our Facebook Event! It will be a wonderful fashionable event for all!

Grasroots Fashion, On-Stage and Off!

Beautiful Things, Color, Ithacans, On the road, Style

Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance tends to attract some of the more uniquely styled characters from all over the Finger Lakes. Thus, today we will take you on a tour of some of our favorite fashions at Grassroots this year, both up on stage and down in the field. Enjoy!

One of the first acts we saw was Rockwood Ferry, and what better way to start out the festival than with one of Petrune’s favorite customers, Rosie Newton, playing a mean fiddle in this beautiful delicately crocheted blouse.

Walking around the festival, print were everywhere!

Stopping by the Infield stage for Hank Roberts, we were thrilled to see him bring his talented daughter up on stage to duet and her vintage linen dress.

The Grady Girls, over in the dance tent, were all looking fly in summer dresses and vintage shifts.

Even if you don’t have a prom in your future, it is always fun to look at beautiful formal wear, and who knows, you can always create an event fit for a princess! Here are a few lovely shots of Eleanor in some of our formal wear finest that can be found on our Etsy shop. Simply click on the image for more detail shots. Bask in the beauty :)!

Street-style and Vintage Swag at SXSW!

Beautiful Things, On the road, Rock and Roll, Special Events, Style

After months of pining away in the almost-freezing, we got the chance to go down to South By Southwest in Austin, Texas this year! Aside from the beautiful music spilling from every corner of the city, we found Austin (in SXSW mode) to be one of the most stylish places we’ve ever visited. With beautiful weather all week, the options for style were endless. In addition, we were thrilled to see so many people exploring vintage options!

Here’s some of our favorite looks we found out on the street at SXSW this year. Fashionable ladies abound, as usual at an international music festival, but we were also excited to see so many men with individual refined style! Lookin’ good, guys!

Maxi dresses and skirts were a trend everywhere we looked. We especially like how this gal "toughened up" the flowing look with those combat boots!

Burnt-orange shorts and a vintage hawaiian shirt to match the warm southern air. Surprisingly (and awesomely), florals were quite common at SXSW.

So much more after the jump!

Holy Handmade, Batman!

Beautiful Things, Gift, Handmade, Ithacans

We try to be “Locavores” in every way possible. Keeping cultural and economic power within a community instead of frequenting the big-box stores is an amazing thing!

Lately, we’ve been searching out some of our favorite local artisans to bring you beautiful products made right here in upstate New York. One of out favorite local lines, One Swell Gal, flies off the shelves every time we put it out! Handmade products like hers have such an innate personal charm! Here are some other handmade accessories we are carrying right now in the store. Enjoy :).

These two necklaces are from Trumansburg artist Carissa Mann Parlato. Her line, C (Star) Studio, has beautiful artisan statement jewelry.

This necklace is by one of our favorite customers and artists, Cady Fontana. Each bird charm is totally handmade, unique, and adorable.

Super cute earrings made by local Girl Scout Troop 374. For the reasonable price of $4.00 you can support the Girl Scouts and accessorize!

Here are some lovely Belle Epock hairpins. Dressing up your hair can be fun and feathery!

Petrune Enjoys Chili Fest, is Spicy!

Beautiful Things, Ithacans, Special Events, Style

We feel that out of all the big “Commons Food Fest” extravaganzas, Chili Fest is the best. You can wear cozy furs and winter coats, everyone is gettin’ reeeal close for body warmth, and, of course, the food! If Petrune were a food, we would be spicy chili (no beans) and a sliver of light, buttery cornbread. Chili is classic, warm, comforting, and has a wonderful edge that keeps you on your toes.

This year’s Chili Fest was a blast, as always. With awesome street style and delicious chili at every turn, what more could we possibly want?

It’s the Year of the Dragon, Window Agrees!

Beautiful Things, Special Events, Windows

With the passing of Chinese New Year, it is officially the Year of the Dragon! Our window is decked out to match, complete with a genuine Hong-Kong made dragon-dancer. Our dragon dancer, made for 3 people, is truly a piece of art, and we’re so excited to share it!

The year of the Dragon signifies a time of good luck, and plentiful wheat and poultry. Thus, we at Petrune hope your year is filled with good fortune and good food!

An Ode to Wool and Woolly Things

Beautiful Things, Lovely Materials, Style

There’s no better companion during the winter months than a quality wool coat, or a luxurious cashmere sweater. Here, Alex and Angelina photograph several wool pieces that could become a staple of your winter wardrobe.

Starting with an essential element to any woman’s wardrobe, the gigantic cozy sweater. It doubles as a blanket for lazy evenings on the couch, but you can also dress it up with a belt and boots for a night out! This one is a wool blend, for added comfort.

Halfway between your favorite blazer and your favorite flannel button-up, this brightly-colored wool jacket is an easy (and warm!) way to spice up jeans and a t-shirt.

More essential winter wools for both men and women after the jump!
