Street-style and Vintage Swag at SXSW!

Beautiful Things, On the road, Rock and Roll, Special Events, Style

After months of pining away in the almost-freezing, we got the chance to go down to South By Southwest in Austin, Texas this year! Aside from the beautiful music spilling from every corner of the city, we found Austin (in SXSW mode) to be one of the most stylish places we’ve ever visited. With beautiful weather all week, the options for style were endless. In addition, we were thrilled to see so many people exploring vintage options!

Here’s some of our favorite looks we found out on the street at SXSW this year. Fashionable ladies abound, as usual at an international music festival, but we were also excited to see so many men with individual refined style! Lookin’ good, guys!

Maxi dresses and skirts were a trend everywhere we looked. We especially like how this gal "toughened up" the flowing look with those combat boots!

Burnt-orange shorts and a vintage hawaiian shirt to match the warm southern air. Surprisingly (and awesomely), florals were quite common at SXSW.

So much more after the jump!

Petrune Enjoys Chili Fest, is Spicy!

Beautiful Things, Ithacans, Special Events, Style

We feel that out of all the big “Commons Food Fest” extravaganzas, Chili Fest is the best. You can wear cozy furs and winter coats, everyone is gettin’ reeeal close for body warmth, and, of course, the food! If Petrune were a food, we would be spicy chili (no beans) and a sliver of light, buttery cornbread. Chili is classic, warm, comforting, and has a wonderful edge that keeps you on your toes.

This year’s Chili Fest was a blast, as always. With awesome street style and delicious chili at every turn, what more could we possibly want?

Happy Valentine’s Day, Let’s wear red and eat chocolate regardless of our relationship status!

1960-1970, 1970-1980, Special Events, Style, Windows

Valentine’s day! It’s a nice time. When we’re in love, we like it because love is nice and it’s good to have a holiday celebrating it! When we’re not in love… did you know there’s going to be a major chocolate sale on Feb 15th? Oh yeah(to be said in Kool-Aid style voice)!

Speaking of Kool Aid, a close third to Candy and Love in the scheme of holiday greatness is the color! We put together a red and pink Valentines window a couple days ago, inspired by some delightfully snazzy 70’s romance comics. With our display dressed to impress and our sexiest vintage-inspired lingerie out on the front table… can someone please give us chocolate now?

It’s the Year of the Dragon, Window Agrees!

Beautiful Things, Special Events, Windows

With the passing of Chinese New Year, it is officially the Year of the Dragon! Our window is decked out to match, complete with a genuine Hong-Kong made dragon-dancer. Our dragon dancer, made for 3 people, is truly a piece of art, and we’re so excited to share it!

The year of the Dragon signifies a time of good luck, and plentiful wheat and poultry. Thus, we at Petrune hope your year is filled with good fortune and good food!

Pas Cher Chic featuring Petrune

Publicity, Special Events, Style

When Jenna, purveyor of fashionable things over at Pas Cher Chic, approached us about featuring Petrune in a blog post, we were pretty psyched. Her blog over at pascherchic always has amazing styling ideas and a really unique point of view, whether she’s at a vintage boutique, a thrift store, or H&M.

We were especially excited when she totally pulled of a couple pairs of leather 80’s pants. We’ve been waiting for someone to come along with the cojones to rock those! Jenna and her sister modeled a number of super sassy red, black, and white themed looks, calling to mind our beloved White Stripes. And really, when the White Stripes are even tangentially involved, there’s no way to deny the awesome factor.

Here’s a few of our fave looks, but be sure to check out her blog for two posts of Petrune goodness!

Hifashion Studios Shoot with Petrune

Special Events, Style

You may remember HiFashion Studios from their runway show at Ithaca College a couple months back. A student organization devoted to a love of fashion, HiFashion studios sent looks down the runway from many boutiques and designers around Ithaca, including some beautiful vintage pieces from here at Petrune.

We were thrilled when they approached us to create a photo spread for their magazine! After a fun shoot with Lucy, some of the folks from HiFashion, and some very patient and cooperative models, they got some beautiful images.

Check out their full magazine here!

A Petrune Party with IMPP!

Art Show, Publicity, Special Events

As beautiful as the clothing in Petrune is, and as wonderfully creative as our window designs are, it is sometimes forgotten that we can throw an awfully classy cocktail party.

To show off this little-known skill, we teamed up with Ithaca Motion Picture Project for their most recent exhibit “Romance, Exploits, and Peril: When Movies were Made in Ithaca.” As part of an exhibit that spanned several local businesses, including Gimme!, the State Theater, the local library, and more, we honored Ithaca’s history as a beacon of filmmaking almost 100 years ago. The cherry on top was a reception we held this past Friday, for lovers of film, fashion, food, and friends.

So many of our attendees looked like stars of the silver screen themselves, we thought it’d be criminal not to share some snaps from the party with y’all. Especially the guy in the skinny tie. Skinny ties are amazing. See the photos after the jump!

A Stylishly Spooky Halloween!

Special Events

Over the past couple weeks, We’ve noticed something worrisome about Petrune’s customers. They enter as they usually do, beautiful stylish people swaddled in fall hues, but when they leave… some are cowboys! Others become sailors, and We’ve seen a couple leave the store transformed into genuine 1920’s flappers. We’ve had Molly Ringwalds, Michael Jacksons, and Freddie Mercurys parading out the door all week!

But then again, when you have a costume rental policy as nice as Petrune’s, who could resist? If you’ve yet to find that perfect outfit for Halloween, stop on by the store this week to pick out your awesome alter-ego. For only 25% of the retail price, you can rent any piece of clothing here at Petrune for a full week!

So, go a little crazy. Get that leather jacket with 2-foot fringe, or the dress with Cher-style sequins. To show you just a few possibilities, here’s Reece and Eleanor modeling some of our favorites. Photos after the jump!
