Tonight is the official start of this years Ithaca Festival ! Here’s a peek at our new window celebrating the theme of the festival, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare. We’ve been drooling over this dress for a while now, wouldn’t it be the perfect whimsical wedding dress for Hippolyta, Amazonian queen?

Be sure to stop in and say hi, we’ll be here all weekend and might have a few surprises up our sleeves!

Prom and Beyond

Uncategorized

We might not be kids anymore, but at Petrune we LOVE playing dress up. So whenever a customer asks for something vintage to wear to a formal event, our minds turn to playful puffy skirts and fitted bodices– classic elegance that comes straight from the 1950s. This first forest green beauty is nearly all tulle, featuring a scalloped, sequined and strapless bodice. The silk bouquet and shawl are both detachable.

The fabric on this next one is supremely airy, perfect for any summer occasion. The halter strap is adjustable and it has pockets! So perfect.

Seriously, the details on this dress are spectacular. We were nearly drooling over the fabric’s painted texture, which is topped by a gold overlay of checkers and stars. Over that are a burst of hand sewn gold shimmery star appliqués, each with a tiny rhinestone in the center.

These next two are special finds for us. Either would be stunning as a prom gown, or even as a perfectly unique wedding dress.

The lace overlay wrapped with a black velvet sash continues to the back, framing the clip-on bow detail that drapes perfectly to the bottom of the dress.

This next dress screams pretty princess in the best way. Covered in the most illuminating rhinestones, this early 50s piece shines and sparkles like the day it was made. Even the most detailed pictures can’t capture how incredibly radiant this dress is, it’s really one you need to see for yourself.

Peggy Guggenheim

Style, Uncategorized

Muse of the month: Peggy Guggenheim, patron of the arts, trend setter, and avid collector of paintings, sculpture, jewelry and men. Her penchant for hanging jewelry on the wall inspired our decorator, Darrell P. to make a Peggy G. wall with some of our more sculptural pieces. Peggy’s jewelry was designed by artists like Alexander Calder and Juan Miro. We hung Victorian era Iroquois bead work, a Chinese embroidered necklace, and a group of beaded handbags dating from 1920’s – 1950’s.

Stairway

Three months have passed and we are finally home at 126 East State Street. The store is freshly painted and scrubbed, and we are continuing to bring in tons of fantastic new vintage clothing. We couldn’t have done it without the help of Petrune’s fabulous sales staff, Jennifer, Lucy, Libby and Emily. Also the terrific, fast and efficient construction team of JBM Construction, and the interior design wizard, Darrel P. Thank you all for your hard work.

Update

Uncategorized

It’s coming together. We hope to be open by January 15, at the latest. The space is undergoing finishing touches, painting, cleaning, and all the rest.

Here’s a picture of the second floor men’s department, as it looks now, freshly painted.  I can’t wait to start filling it with clothes.

Check out the cool old mosaic tile we found under the carpeting. This was from when the space (126 East State Street) was a pharmacy, from the turn of the century until the 1970’s.  There’s still lots of scrubbing to get the old glue off, but we think it will be worth it.

We did a ton of washing up today. Here’s Emily getting the clothing racks ready.

Stylish Warmth

Uncategorized

While the official start of winter is still a week away, we’re feeling the chill here in Ithaca. If you’ve been left out in the cold, visit downtown to see all of our beautiful winter wear.

Our friend Maggie threw together this inspiring look while browsing.

When paired with fabulous red accessories, like our latest ILI leather/cashmere gloves and a fun 1950s tote, this faux-leopard 1960s manteau is simply a stunner.

Or, twirl the winter blues away in this 1940s riding coat, complete with three extra layers of insulation…

Warmth doesn’t have to mean bulk!

Latest plans

Uncategorized

Clean up and renovations of 126 East State Street are taking longer than we thought, so we are going to Plan B. On Gallery night, the evening of Nov. 5, we will be opening a mini shop in “The Holiday Spirit Store” across the street in the former “Night and Day” space. We are proud to be joining some of the best dealers from the Ithaca Farmers Market, and we will be selling all great new stuff that we have collected in the past couple of weeks. The fire sale can wait, we want to do what we do best, really great vintage clothing, hand crafts, and quality new modern lines (nothing smoke damaged, thank you very much!)

See you there!

Plans for re-opening!

Uncategorized

First of all, we want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support in the past two weeks. All of your kind words and actions have really helped us through this challenging time.

We are especially grateful to the Ithaca Fire Department for their courageous work. They put their lives on the line for our community every day, and we don’t realize what a gift that is until something like this happens. They put out a raging fire in less than an hour and made sure that everyone was safe.

We have a clean up crew hard at work on the building, and now things are looking up! Everyone has been asking about when we will be open again, and we have some tentative plans in place. Dates are subject to change, so check back.

Friday, November 5th we will be open on the second floor (entrance between Petrune and Brotchen), where we will be running a “Fire Sale” (literally) of 50% off everything that was in our store before the fire. There are tons of wonderful one of a kind vintage items, as well as all our new lines like Tulle, BB Dakota, and Alternative Apparel. It will be a great time for bargains on your Fall/Winter wardrobes.Scratch that, we will be opening with all new merchandise at the Holiday Spirit Store across the street. The Fire sale can wait until we have our old space back.

Friday, December 3rd will be our grand re-opening of the main store. We will have a whole new look and all new (to us) vintage clothing, as well as lots of other things. It will be a great time for Christmas shopping, and finding exciting one of a kind treasures. We hope to be back in our building ASAP, but construction always takes longer than we’d like. The good news is that our store will look a million times cooler once we polish up the mosaic tile that was under the carpet.

In the mean time, if you have a store credit, or a worried about returns etc. please rest assured that we will honor all past agreements, and make allowances for the time we were closed. We can’t wait to re-open and see all of you again!
