The 1970s
The 1970s was a confused era with large amounts of drug use, crossing moral barriers and an economic slowdown. Many looks of the early 1970s were bright and ethnic. Skirts lowered to above the knee, but there was a "hemline hassle" as mini skirts, middie skirts, and maxi skirts were available. "Hot pants" emerged as the inner thigh became the new erogenous zone. Leisure suits arose for men as well as bell bottoms tight in the crotch with flared bottoms worn with platform shoes. Many fabrics at this time were itchy polyesters and doubleknits.
In the mid-late 1970s, much of the population was still comprised of the young baby boomers. Sexuality abounded with an abusive relationship between men and women arising. More and more use of color was seen. The unisex look came about with manmade fabrics decreasing in abundance due to restrictions on oil use.
